Legal Aid Lawyers NSW

Our Legal aid Lawyers NSW understand that not everyone with a legal problem can afford Professional legal assistance.

Our Legal aid Lawyers NSW can assist you in obtaining a grant of aid from Legal Aid, a government funded organisation. Legal Aid will pay our costs to represent you. We are on the Legal Aid Criminal Law Panel and can represent you in the areas of Criminal law and Family law.

As your legal aid Lawyers we can apply for legal aid on your behalf by preparing and lodging your Legal aid application.

In order to receive a grant of aid you must meet the following criteria set out by Legal Aid:

  • your financial means (your income and your assets) ;
  • the merit of your case (whether it is likely to succeed and whether the cost can be justified); and
  • whether you meet Legal Aid policy guidelines.

We suggest you use the Means Test Indicator to check whether or not you may qualify. This is a guide to help you assess whether you may be financially eligible for legal aid funding. Please note that this is only a test and the outcome of it may or not be accurate. This is only one of the tests for eligibility for legal aid.

Legal aid NSW is not free. You will be asked to pay a contribution. The amount will depend on your financial circumstances and the relevant area of law.

In accordance with the Legal Aid NSW Client Service Charter 2008 you can expect the following from Legal aid Lawyers:

  • To receive the same level of service as all other clients.
  • Our staff to observe the highest standards of ethical and professional behaviour.
  • Our staff to be culturally sensitive to your needs.
  • Our staff to be impartial and open with you in dealing with your inquiry or case, and to provide a realistic assessment of your case.
  • Our staff to treat any information you give us as confidential, unless the law says otherwise.
  • To be kept advised on the progress of your case or inquiry.
  • To be promptly informed in writing about anything you need to do and what is likely to happen once your legal matter is completed.
  • To have a decision about your application for a grant of legal aid reviewed if you disagree with that decision.
